What an amazing opening for this years Art Farm, 2011 on Friday night!  Lots of artists came with spouses, friends and family to see over 100 works of art representing Yolo county farmlands.  A beautiful exhibit this year representing each artist’s unique interpretation of nature.

As live piano and flute music by Keys and Breeze wafted to the upstairs gallery, I overheard  conversations about art as someone discussed their approach to painting: “Watercolor painting is like a partnership, you and the paint are working together and sometimes the paint knows exactly what to do and all you have to do is follow”.

And in keeping with the theme of the evening I also caught two people talking about Yolo’s landscapes and wildlife: “This photo of the Chickahominy Slough  on the Barger Farm reminds me that there’s a rare bird that only lands in this particular slough in Yolo County and it’s called the Phainopepola. (Which he confirmed after looking up the spelling on his IPhone Birdwatcher Ap!) It looks just like a cardinal except it’s completely black”.  There we have it! People talking about Art and Ag!  It was good to know that the program was delivering on its promise to bring artists, farmers and the community together inspired in different way by the richness of Yolo county’s farmlands.

The Art Harvest is next  -  November 4, 2011….the anticipation and buzz is delicious!
