As final design work continues on the Gore Park project, the surrounding arts organizations are developing programing plans for the park and the district. Six arts organizations surround the park: San Jose Stage Company, MACLA/Movimiento de Arte y Cultura Latino Americana, San Jose Museum of Quilts and Textiles, San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art, Higher Fire Clayspace and Gallery, and the Art Glass Center of San Jose. All six groups are planning an Art House open house in May 2012. Art House will highlight the area's theme of "Make Art Here," and the participatory aspect of their work. The Art House event will take place from 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM and fill the block with creative opportunities.
Each organization is also considering how they will use the new space when the project is complete. The design process has taken into account the potential uses of the "outdoor living room" and the accompanying needs, both physical and technical. The park will be able to highlight a diversity of public art projects moving forward, as well as host a broad spectrum of events and gatherings. On a day-to-day basis, it will be a comfortable space for the district and surrounding neighborhoods to enjoy San Jose's 300+ days of sunshine each year.
