The Prattsville Art Center and Residency is located in a rural Catskill Mountain Town which was nearly destroyed by flooding from Hurricane Irene in 2011. The flood damaged historic building on the town's Main Street has been rebuilt as an anchor for the recovering community, and the centerpiece of the "Creative Main Street" portion of the proposed New York Rising Community Rebuilding plan.
The Art Center offers the town's first indoor public space, as well as free exhibitions, music and film events, educational workshops, wi-fi computer access, and a coffee bar. A dozen Artists in Residence have come each year from France, Germany, China, Taiwan, Korea, Mexico, Iran and New York City, to make new work in this pristine natural environment, teach workshops to local residents, and help with the Town's long term recovery process. Upcoming projects include the restoration of an addition, garden, and damaged barn as a library, studio facilities, and a community garden and restaurant, as well as public art projects.
