Update
These past two months, we have been working closely with the NYC Department of Transportation (DOT) and our local fabricator Serett Metalworks bringing us closer to the actual installation of Silent Lights. Our project consists of six gates made of perforated steel and translucent acrylic that will frame a pedestrian pathway and utilize surrounding traffic noise to bring light and visual interest to a neglected site. Silent Lights will be located at a busy intersection in Red Hook, Brooklyn en route to its only subway stop. The project frames a single pedestrian path on a central median bringing light, color and visual interest to a foot path without creating dangerous blind spots.
Recent Wins
- Won Black Rock Grant
- Brooklyn Arts Council just promoted our ArtPlace America grant in their monthly newsletter bringing attention to the project and alerting our fiscally sponsored peers to our accomplishment.
- After two years and many delays, the Smith and 9th Street G train stop has finally reopened. This is great news for us as the pedestrian pathway of our site is a major connecting point from this subway stop into Red Hook.
Insight/Provocation
While collaborating with other local, community organizations, what is the best way to inspire these organizations to reach out to their media and publicity connections to garner additional momentum for a project and to enlist more community organizations to participate and take action.
