Spaceworks transforms underused spaces to provide affordable work space for artists.
New York City is an international destination for creative talent. However, for decades the cultural community has voiced concerns about the scarcity of affordable space to make art.
With the support of ArtPlace, the City and private partners will launch Spaceworks, an intiative designed to increase the supply of accessible and affordable studio and rehearsal space in New York City.
Spaceworks will focus on repurposing existing underused space for use by visual and performance artists. Public buildings as well as privately held space will be transformed into affordable studio and rehearsal spaces.
Spaceworks aims to create a network of rehearsal and studio facilities for the creative workforce and develop a model that can be replicated nationally to support artists.
