West Broadway is a 2.2-mile commercial corridor that is home to a thriving visual and performing arts scene, innovative social enterprises, and minority-owned small businesses. The corridor suffers from historic disinvestment in physical infrastructure, a lack of designated public space, and chronic racial profiling that has criminalized pedestrian use of the street. The West Broadway Business Improvement District (BID) will employ community artists to create public infrastructure improvements including benches, planters, and parklets. Artist-led programming will activate these public spaces, inviting the community to use and take ownership of these new amenities.
