Shreveport Regional Arts Council with 2011-Academy-Award winning director and animator Brandon Oldenburg, and a team of local artists curate UNSCENE!, an UNpredictable, UNabashed, UNabridged calendar of regular, never-the-same-twice events.
From October 2013 - August 2014, these monthly events - in formerly unused spaces - paired national artists-in-residence with regional and local artists to attract new and diverse audiences to experience the look, feel, tastes, smells, and sounds of Shreveport Common, a 9-block UNcommon cultural district and Creative Placemaking initiative.
UNSCENE! continues on a quarterly basis in 2015, with two of the most successful events brought back by popular demand. Audiences, artists, and funders have called for and support the return of UNdisputed! (June 2015) and the Tribute to Stan ‘the Record Man’ Lewis Festival (August 2015). UNdisputed! 2015 is expanded to a week-long celebration of professional arts: the National Art Critic Series, Art Collection masterclasses, juried arts market, curated open studio tours, and the crowd-pleaser finale extravaganza, UNdisputed! ART CHALLENGE which sees artist teams compete arena-style for a $10,000 cash prize, as determined by art critics and a voting, cheering, edge-of-their-seat audience.
UNSCENE! UNlocks the possibilities of Shreveport Common, leaving indelible marks that permanently advance the Vision for a creative cultural community.
