Mayor Bloomberg Highlights ‘Spaceworks’ in State of the City Address
On January 12, 2012, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg delivered the annual State of the City address evaluating past civic accomplishments and laying out initiatives for the year ahead. The speech, entitled “NYC: Capital of Innovation,” listed Spaceworks alongside a new technology and engineering campus, continued development at the World Trade Center site, and other economic development plans that will help make New York City a global capital of innovation for the 21st century.
Mayor Bloomberg heralded Spaceworks as the launch of an organization charged with creating long-term, affordable rehearsal and studio space citywide. The organization will help maintain the City’s status as a welcoming home for artists, an incubator of innovation and an inviting place to live, work and play.
The dynamic real estate intermediary continues to take shape as board members, staff, and other partners are recruited. Major milestones will be announced in weeks ahead.
