A Tale of Two Cities: McColl Center + the North Tryon Corridor pinpoints the Center’s unique location on North Tryon Street in uptown Charlotte, mere footsteps from the vital center for service delivery for people experiencing homelessness. Recent and rapid corporate and private housing development has threatened to displace these services and their clients in the name of public safety, further jeopardizing a vulnerable population. Through primary partnerships with the City of Charlotte, Urban Ministry Center, Grubb Properties, and North End Partners, McColl Center will leverage its reputation as the leading contemporary art center and artist residency program in Charlotte to drive a consensus vision for the North Tryon Street area and in response to these challenges.
